BUSES

1. From Dong Hoi.

How to get to Phong Nha from Dong Hoi
From Dong Hoi: Our nearest train station and airport are in Dong Hoi, about 45km from Phong Nha. Your options for getting to Phong Nha from Dong Hoi are: Private transfer, local taxi or local bus. If you are booking a long distance bus, get one that comes directly to Phong Nha, not to Dong Hoi!
Local Bus: Departs regularly, is very cheap, but takes around 90 minutes. It can drop you off opposite Easy Tiger. You can get the bus from outside the Nam Ly bus station (Ben Xe Nam Ly) or any bus-stop on Tran Hung Dao street with a blue and white sign at the location. The bus is green and yellow, and the bus number is  B4, and says Dong Hoi – Hoan Lao – Phong Nha across the windscreen.
The bus departs from Dong Hoi at 05:30, 06:00 and then nearly every hour until 17:00 with the exception of 12:00.
The bus departs from Phong Nha 05:30, 06:00 and then nearly every hour until 16:00 with the exception of 12:00, with the last bus at around 17:00.
Private Transfer: We can arrange a private car to pick you up from/take you to Dong Hoi. The cost of the transfer is shared by the number of people arriving/leaving.
The price of transfer, between Dong Hoi and Phong Nha, per person is:
* 1 passenger – 500,000vnd each
* 2 passengers – 250,000vnd each
* 3 passengers – 170,000vnd each
* 4 or more passengers – 125,000vnd each
We always try to get more people in the car, if arriving at the same time, to make it cheaper. We need to know how and when you arrive, including your flight number or train number, to arrange transport from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha. Please confirm with us once you have bought your tickets as well as supplying your mobile number if you have one, in case there are any delays.
Local taxi: There are more taxis available in Dong Hoi now and competition is bringing the prices down. Barter them down to between 400,000vnd and 500,000vnd. Local taxis have been known to ask for between 600,000vnd and 1,000,000vnd in the past, so make sure you agree a reasonable price before you set out.
Motorbike Taxi:  A fair price for a motorbike taxi from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha is between 200,000vnd and 250,000vnd. Fine for a sunny day, but we don’t suggest you take one in the rain or at night.

2. From Hue
How do I get from HUE to Easy Tiger?
Recently we have been having problems with various afternoon bus services with companies including Camel Travel & Queen Cafe coming from Da Nang/Hoi An/Hue arriving in Phong Nha after our hostel closes. The buses usually arrive between midnight to 02:00 and we have even had reports of them dropping people off in Dong Hoi which is 45 KM away. We have also had reports from travellers of the buses not actually leaving Hue until they have enough passengers on the bus which impacts their arrival time in Phong Nha. For this reason we can only suggest coming on either the train from Hue to Dong Hoi, and then taking a transfer/taxi or local bus to reach Phong Nha, or by taking one of the buses listed below. We have found these to be the most reliable and friendly bus experiences between Hue and us, and no, we don’t make commission by suggesting them!
Please note that these same options can be used to go TO Hue as well.
Option 1) The DMZ bus. Leaves the DMZ Bar at 14:00, arrives in Phong Nha at 18:00. You can buy tickets from the DMZ Bar on the corner of Le Loi Street & Pham Ngu Lao Street and from DMZ Hostel at 01 Pham Ngu Lao Street. Please note that this does NOT stop anywhere in the DMZ, it is a direct bus. It will drop you off at Easy Tiger Hostel, so it’s nice and easy! You also get to arrive in Phong Nha in time for happy hour at Easy Tiger, early enough to get something to eat from some great local restaurants close by, and to book all of our available tours for the following day.
Option 2) Hung Thanh Travel bus departs from 49 Chu Van An at 17:00 and arrives at Easy Tiger at around 21:00. You can buy tickets from 49 Chu Van An and they generally will pick you up from your accommodation in Hue in a mini van shuttle to transfer you and your bags to the main bus. This is the best evening bus to take, but please note that you miss local happy hours and live music, and the bus can sometimes get in late. Great if you want to spend most of the day in Hue before heading to Phong Nha.
Option 3) The Tan Nhat Travel bus departs from Central Hue at 07:00 and will drop you off in Phong Nha at around 12:00. This is a bus that does a day tour to Phong Nha but also takes passengers. (You will stop at a ruined church along the way. If you walk behind the big building with the statue of the virgin Mary, and go through the gate, there are noodle shops if you didn’t have breakfast, but be quick as you only stop for 20 minutes!). This is a great bus if you want to arrive in time to see Phong Nha Cave in the afternoon, or to make use of our free bicycles and explore the area for a few hours.
Option 4) The local bus The “Phuc Vu” (don’t ask us to pronounce that) bus departs Hue at 11:30AM from Hue’s Northern Bus Station. You pay the driver 90,000-150,000VND depending what mood he is in, and tell him “Phong Nha”. This is a local bus and we at Easy Tiger Hostel have no control over it. It is cheap and fast (when it goes on time and doesn’t break down). It takes about 5 hours. Registration is 73B-00366. This bus returns Phong Nha to Hue at 05:00 each day.
Option 5) The train from Hue to Dong Hoi:
Click here for the Saigon to Hanoi Timetable
We can arrange a transfer for you from Dong Hoi if you arrive on the train, or you can take the local bus from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha. The train is more comfortable and reliable, but more expensive as you need to get from Dong Hoi Station to us, whereas the Bus goes to our door. If you are arriving in Dong Hoi please email us for details on getting to Phong Nha via transfer, taxi or local bus.
*please note that the bus and train schedules change without notice so please confirm the information above before you travel
